How many people does it take to change a light bulb? We all know this old joke. I believe it is three, right? Two to turn the ladder and one to hold the bulb. Don’t any of you preachers use this. A more important question is how many people does it take to do church?
In a new church it takes about 10 people to set up and tear down all the necessary equipment. Let’s say 4 greeters, 2 children’s church assistants, 4-6 communion and offering servers, the possibility of musicians, multi-media and sound tech help. Follow up personnel may be needed for any guest that came that day.
You get the picture. A new church needs help for about the first three months until it can equip individuals to handle various Sunday morning tasks. Mission teams that come during this time could help alleviate many stresses that the launch team need not be concerned about.
You would also be able to witness first hand the birth of a new church. There is nothing more exciting them being a part of the team that helps in the delivery room. Your visit to help with this new church will solidify your passion and the future sacrifices you and your church will be willing to make to help spread the gospel through church planting.
